You may recall my first experience at Lila’s restaurant in Sarasota was unimpressionable, the food that is. I vowed to go back again and I did last week. Redemption time. Now I know what the hype is all about at Lila’s. Here is my review of Lila’s restaurant in Sarasota.
The modern and minimalist décor of white subway-tiled walls, a slender refurbished wooden bar and a mix of high-top tables and standard seating planking both walls of the narrow space had me at first step into the restaurant. Beyond the décor, the menu is modern and minimalist as well. Stockpiled with vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free friendly options, the menu is vegetable forward and allows you to eat clean and healthy if you wish. Omnivores don’t fret. There are sumptuous chicken options and a manly sausage option as well.
Since this was my second visit to Lila’s, my friend and I finally decided on two dishes to share; the macro bowl and the bean tostados. Both were very different, yet satisfying.
Macro bowl: Chickpeas, sweet potatoes, seaweed, avocados brown rice and tahini vinaigrette
Every morsel was cooked to perfection. In other words, nothing was crunchy or soggy. The tahini vinaigrette paired nicely with the range of ingredients, without overpowering any one. And just in case you don’t know what a macro bowl is, they are a large bowl full of various protein, fat and carbohydrates which meet all three of the macronutrients needed to properly fuel our bodies. Macro bowl for the win! Seriously, I’ve craved a macro bowl every day since.
Bean Tostados: Yucatan style red cabbage, avocados, salsa and cilantro
The bean tostados arrived and were almost too gorgeous to eat. The tostados were light and crispy and the dressing smoothed out the heavy, refried-style beans.
There were many other vegan/vegetarian friendly options competing for my attention such as the Veg Burger made of quinoa-sweet potatoes and a sunnyside-up farm egg over a root vegetable-potato hash and brioche toast small plate.
Cheers to healthy eating and to Lila’s for giving me reason to keep my lent resolution this year!
